Martin Vanco: MEDIEVAL ROTUNDAS IN
SLOVAKIA
(FROM THE NINTH UNTIL THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY)
 |
The publication is the
first systematic survey of Early Medieval rotundas on the
territory of Slovakia. The first part is devoted to
origin and meaning of Central European rotundas. The
author proves, by iconography of architecture, that
rotundas of the western Slavs were built according to the
pattern of the Charlemagne's chapel at Aix during Great
Moravian Christianization. The second part is the
catalogue that comprehensively presents central buildings
from the ninth until the thirteenth century in Slovakia.
